In this Fresh Blueberry Blackberry Pie, a mound of fresh blueberries and blackberries are mixed with lemon juice, lemon zest, a few spices, and a bit of sugar and enveloped in a flaky, all-butter crust. This Fresh Blueberry Blackberry Pie brings out the natural flavors of both berries, making it the perfect summer, berry pie.
I know I’m posting a summer recipe, and summer is almost over. Actually, for a lot of folks, school has already started, but we’re still on summer vacation in New England. And we’re having 90+ degree weather around here. So it feels like we’re still in the middle of summer. And summer to me means berries – tons and tons of fresh, sweet, tart berries in every variety. Passing through the produce section of my grocery store, I couldn’t help but indulge in a few more cartons of blueberries and blackberries.
Normally we don’t just snack on blackberries in our house. They have the tendency to be a little tart. But that tartness is what makes them a perfect accompaniment with blueberries. In this Fresh Blueberry Blackberry Pie, the blueberries lend the pie sweetness, and the blackberries give the pie a much needed, tart counterbalance. The combination of the two fruits makes for one delicious pie.
For the crust, I’m partial to all-butter ones. They just come out so crisp, and nothing beats the flavor of butter. Nothing.
So how did this Fresh Blueberry Blackberry Pie go over with my family? Well, I made it 3 times in 2 weeks. To be fair, I made it while we in Chicago visiting our family. One evening we invited everyone over (that’s about 21 people) for a pie and ice cream. I made a peach pie, a strawberry pie, a vegan blueberry slab pie, and this Fresh Blueberry Blackberry Pie. Guess which one was finished first? Yup. This pie. Give this pie a try. I promise it’ll be a keeper π

Looks amazing! Great idea to combine the two berries! I’m going to have *at least* another month of summer (weather, at least) here in Phoenix. Ugh! Love the pie!

Thanks so much, Patricia! Oh my goodness – Phoenix in the summer must be burning hot. I’d be eating ice cream by the gallon-full! I hope you give the pie a try. It’s really a great combo π
