How to Use a Paper Template to Decorate Cookies

July 30, 2015 by Aida 4 Comments

If you want your decorated sugar cookies to look more professional and consistent, that can easily be accomplished by using a homemade, inexpensive Paper Template to Decorate Cookies. I used a homemade Paper Template to make sure all of these adorable, whimsical chickadee cookies were uniform and as close to perfect for the birthday girl!

Decorating sugar cookies can become an obsessive – well at least if your a perfectionist like me! Every time I finish decorated a set of sugar cookies, I feel discouraged. The royal icing isn’t smooth enough (those darn air bubbles). The icing consistency is too stiff. Or to runny. Basically, it comes down to the cookies not being perfect.

While a whole lot of cookie decorating comes down to experience and practice, there are a few tricks that can make your cookies look a little closer to perfect. One of my favorite tips is using a paper template to make your royal icing decorations standard and consistent between your cookies.

I love using a paper template because it’s cheap, easy, and if you store your paper templates in a folder or file you can reuse them for another set of cookies!
